What Drives Us: Current Projects and New Services
We’d be happy to provide you with an overview of the projects cideon engineering Schweiz AG has completed in recent months and the new product additions we’ve incorporated into our portfolio.
BLT Waldenburgerbahn: Preparing for More Automated Driving
Baselland Transport (BLT) conducted a study on the Waldenburgerbahn to assess the potential impact of introducing the GoA2 automation level on operations. The goal is to make rail operations even more consistent, energy-efficient, and punctual in the future. This includes, among other things, automated stops at stations and a more consistent driving style.
The analysis shows that the implementation is well-justified from the perspective of reliability and availability. While additional delays may occur in certain situations—such as under difficult weather or track conditions—the expected operational quality remains high overall. Of particular importance here are the support provided during the implementation, the training of operating personnel, and the ongoing evaluation of operational data.
SZU: Interfaces for Vehicle and Information Systems
For the Sihltal-Zurich-Uetliberg Railway (SZU), the focus was on describing the interfaces between the vehicle control unit, the vehicle platform, and the passenger information systems of the SZU vehicles. In particular, the document describes CANopen communication, the object dictionary, PDO mapping, as well as vehicle-type-specific interfaces and addressing schemes.

The project establishes a common foundation that enables different systems within the vehicle to communicate reliably with one another. This includes, among other things, information on vehicle status, speed, train number, vehicle identification, and other operational and informational data. This lays the technical groundwork for seamlessly coordinating existing and future functions in vehicle operations.
GGB: ZEDAS Checklists
For the Gornergrat Bahn (GGB), the project to convert the manufacturer’s maintenance specifications for Xrote 3933 into operationally usable ZEDAS checklists has been completed. The maintenance tasks were structured, assigned maintenance intervals, linked to relevant documents, and activated in the system. The scope includes, among other things, general maintenance, the car body, the undercarriage, the passenger compartment, the hydraulic system, the electrical system, the snow blower, the track plow, and the central lubrication system.

BLS: Feasibility Study on the Repurposing of XTmas 516
A feasibility study was conducted for BLS (Bern–Lötschberg–Simplon) regarding the repurposing of the XTmas vehicle. The goal is to convert the existing crane vehicle into a flexible work vehicle for catenary maintenance. This will involve removing the existing Palfinger crane and replacing it with a three-section PA 1002 aerial work platform, a PFD 99 contact wire pusher, and an accessible roof platform on top of the crew container. The study evaluates technical feasibility, necessary vehicle modifications, registration issues, and costs.
